The Top 5 Events in Morzine This Winter

One of the most popular ski resorts in France, Morzine is favoured by celebrities such as Tim Henman, while The Guardian recently rated it the best-value ski resort in Europe.  Skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports, of course, are the main draw for visitors, but Morzine also offers special events through the winter.

The Rock On Snowboard Tour

The Rock On Snowboard Tour returns to Avoriaz, just above Morzine, from the 12th to 19th December. Forty or so snowboard manufacturers will be there, letting you test all their newest equipment for free. The week will be filled with parties, competitions and concerts, including this year a special appearance on the 13th by Bad Things, the band fronted by snowboarder Shaun White, twice Olympic gold medallist.

Christmas in Morzine

There’s supposed to be snow at Christmas and there never is, but at Morzine you can spend Christmas in a winter paradise. The resort knows how to celebrate the holiday in style, with music and Christmas markets throughout the town. Over the two days before Christmas, the celebrated stiltwalking troupe Les Echassiers Blancs Lumineux will present a hauntingly poetic, winter-themed show.

La Grande Odysée

For ten days in January, Savoie hosts Europe’s biggest husky race, and on the 14th it comes to Les Gets, right next door to Morzine. The day is packed with events, culminating with the teams racing across the snow-covered hills around Morzine. The race starts at four in the afternoon and finishes at half-past ten in the evening, both in the centre of Les Gets.

Snow-Camp Alpine Challenge

From the 12th to 15th March, Morzine hosts the Snow-Camp Alpine Challenge, a charity snowsports endurance event that combines skiing and snowboarding. Teams of four must cover more than 150 km around the resorts of the Porte du Soleil region. If you don’t feel up to joining in, you can still enjoy the spectacle — and, of course, the celebrations afterwards.

Rock the Pistes Music Festival

From the 15th to the 21st March, the pistes around Morzine will echo to top rock and pop artists from France and beyond. Afternoon concerts will be high on the pistes, while in the evening you can listen at the bottom of the slopes. Last year’s festival featured bands such as Babyshambles and the Klaxons, and 2015 promises to attract big names too.

With so much to do, as well as the area’s wonderful slopes, Morzine makes an ideal destination for winter holidays. It’s easy to book premium catered chalets within Morzine France.
